Analysis of the Basic Development Knowledge of the Magnetoelectric Industry

As an essential supporting industry for the national economy, it runs through traditional industry and emerging technology fields, acting as a key pillar for the energy-saving, intelligent and miniaturized development of equipment with strong industrial demand and development resilience.

Magnetic materials are the core carriers of the magnetoelectric industry, mainly divided into two categories: soft magnetic materials and permanent magnetic materials. Soft magnetic materials feature easy magnetization, easy demagnetization and low loss. Including ferrite, amorphous and nanocrystalline materials, they are widely used in power conversion components such as transformers, high-frequency inductors and power filters, adapting to high-frequency and high-efficiency power scenarios. Permanent magnetic materials are characterized by high remanence and excellent stability. Their mainstream products include ferrite permanent magnets and rare-earth neodymium-iron-boron (NdFeB) magnets, which can stably generate magnetic fields without continuous power supply and serve as core raw materials for permanent magnet motors and magnetic sensors. Among them, NdFeB, known as the "King of Permanent Magnets", is a core material for high-end intelligent manufacturing.

The magnetoelectric industry boasts a mature and complete industrial chain with prominent domestic industrial advantages. The upstream sector focuses on the preparation of raw materials such as rare earths, iron and nickel as well as magnetic powder, controlling the core industrial resources. The midstream sector engages in the deep processing of magnetic materials and manufacturing of magnetoelectric devices, covering core products including magnetic cores, motors, sensors and magnetic separation equipment. The downstream sector fully connects with various terminal scenarios. At present, China is the core production area of the global magnetoelectric industry, ranking first worldwide in the production capacity and output of magnetic materials. It has formed a complete industrial closed loop from raw material processing to terminal application, with continuously enhanced domestic supporting capacity.

With the rapid rise of the new energy industry, the application scenarios of the magnetoelectric industry continue to expand. In traditional fields, magnetoelectric devices are indispensable for home appliances, general industrial equipment, mine magnetic separation, and communication equipment. Emerging fields have become the core driving force for industrial growth. Scenarios such as drive motors and on-board power supplies for new energy vehicles, wind and solar power generation and energy storage equipment, high-frequency power supplies for data centers, and servo motors for industrial automation have driven a rising demand for high-performance magnetoelectric materials, promoting the industry to upgrade from traditional low-end manufacturing to high-end precision manufacturing.

Currently, the magnetoelectric industry is in a critical stage of structural upgrading, with green development, high-end orientation and refinement as its core development trends. Gradually breaking away from low-end homogeneous competition, the industry focuses on the R&D and production of high-end materials such as amorphous and nanocrystalline soft magnetic materials and high-grade NdFeB, striving to solve technical pain points including high-frequency loss, high temperature resistance and demagnetization resistance. Empowered by carbon peaking and carbon neutrality policies and high-end manufacturing, the magnetoelectric industry will achieve continuous iterative upgrading and provide solid core support for strategic industries including new energy, intelligent manufacturing and aerospace, embracing broad development prospects.
